Arsene Wenger and Cesc Fabregas will be reunited once again this Sunday, as the Arsenal manager faces his former midfield protege, now the Chelsea linchpin.
There are varying accounts as to how Cesc ended up at Chelsea, and not back at Arsenal, after deciding to leave Barcelona.
Cesc himself said during the World Cup that Arsenal was his first choice, but that Wenger told him his spot was occupied by Mesut Ozil.
Wenger has now told a version that negates Cesc’s, as he admitted to the press today that he did want him back.
Asked ‘Do you think Arsenal was his first choice after leaving Barcelona?’, Wenger replied:
‘Certainly yes…(…)…but I believe his Chelsea deal was done a long time ago, in early 2014.’
But I have no animosity towards Cesc, I love him as a person and a player, and I wish him all the best.
When he looks back on his amazing career, he’ll know that Arsenal played a huge part in making him as a player.’
