The good guys at EA Sports have released the Premier League team of the season so far.
Not only have they produced this season’s best XI after 15 rounds of the season, but we can also compare this year’s line-up to last year’s XI at the same point in the campaign.
At the same stage last season, Chelsea were flying high at the top of the Premier League while Leicester City were firmly rooted to 20th place in the table. A year on, after 15 games played, Leicester sit top of the league, whilst the Blues struggle in 14th place.
The 2014-15 team is below.
Interestingly, not a single player in last year’s EA Sports PPI team of the season makes this campaign’s XI, and whilst Chelsea had a total of six players in the 2014-15 team, nobody has made the grade so far this season.
The Player of the Season last year was Man City forward Sergio Aguero, who had scored 14 goals in 15 games and earned a PPI index of 475, whilst Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez leads the way so far this season, with a PPI index of 441, as well as 10 goals and six assists in fourteen appearances.
There are striking resemblances between Leicester and Chelsea over the two seasons.
Chelsea’s two best players, according to the EA Sports Player Performance Index, were left winger Eden Hazard and centre forward Diego Costa. Likewise, Leicester’s top two performers are their left winger and centre forward, Mahrez and Jamie Vardy.
While Arsenal had no players in the team of the season at this stage last year, they have two of the top performers this season, with summer signing Petr Cech making an immediate impact, and Mesut Ozil finding his best form in an Arsenal shirt to date.
Tottenham also have two players in this season’s XI, with defenders Kyle Walker and Toby Alderweireld both making the cut in defence.
The 2015-16 team of the season so far is below.
