Former French defender Gilles Grimandi has been on a scouting mission over the weekend, report the Mirror on Sunday.
Working for Arsenal, Grimandi has been checking out Dinamo Zagreb’s 17-year-old midfielder Josip Brekalo.
While the English tabloid fail to state exactly what game Grimandi attended, it’s assumed he went to last week’s Croatian Cup semifinal between Dinamo and Hajduk Split.
Zagreb won the match 4-0, and Brekalo opened the scoring in the first half with a coolly taken right footed finish.
Brekalo is under contract in Croatia until 2017, while he’s played in the UEFA Youth League this season against the Gunners and Bayern Munich.
Aside from Arsenal, the Express have previously claimed that Borussia Dortmund are also chasing Brekalo. Bayern are also interested in making a move.
Brekalo is thought to command a transfer fee of around £3.6 million.
While a possible star of tomorrow, Arsenal fans will be hoping that Brekalo isn’t Arsene Wenger’s main target this summer following another disappointing season at the club.
