Arsenal man Paul Merson taunts Tottenham’s Andros Townsend over lack of medals

The Andros Townsend – Paul Merson feud continued last night when the retired Arsenal midfielder took to his column to hit back at Andros Townsend.

Aged 23, Andros Townsend’s recent England call up caused some in the media to question Roy Hodgson’s decision.

However, his faith was repaid when Townsend came off the bench to score a superb equaliser against Italy in Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw.

The pacy Spurs man took to Twitter after the game to hit out at Paul Merson over his earlier made comments in the media.

Now, the 47 year old former England international has hit back at Townsend in his column, taunting him over his lack of medals and the opposition of his international goals.

Merson, whose honours include two league titles with Arsenal, responded to Townsend’s triumphant tweet and said: “I think he should concentrate on playing football, to be honest, and don’t worry about me.

“He could have got my number and rung me. That is the thing with Twitter, they get on it and say what they want.

“But I have no problems with him coming back, although I’d also say win some medals first before you call it on.

“It was a friendly against Italy and he came on in the second half. Let’s not beat about the bush, who have his other two goals been against – Montengro and San Marino?

“I have got no vendetta against him, but I am not going to sit here and say he is top drawer”
