An American college soccer player is karted off in handcuffs after assaulting an official

“Given the seriousness of the incident that occurred following the conclusion of UC Santa Barbara’s men’s soccer match on Sunday, the student-athlete involved has been removed from the team.” – a statement from UC Santa Barbara.

UC Santa Barbara Peter McGlynn was arrested on Sunday during a college soccer game against UC Davis.

Santa Barbara lost the match 2-1 to record a miserable third straight home loss, and after the full-time whistle blew McGlynn lost the plot as he attacked an official from behind.

As seen in a shaky recording, UC Santa Barbara head coach Tim Vom Steeg was talking to the head referee following his team’s defeat, when McGlynn charged the referee and pushed him from behind to the ground. McGlynn had been sent off towards the end of the match for collecting a second booking.

According to reports, McGlynn was handcuffed and arrested by campus police on the scene.
