With all the hullabaloo over the Middle Eastern millions being poured into Manchester City and Notts County, it is easy to forget that another mega-rich club is looking to break into the Premier League, themselves backed by deep deep pockets.
Just over a year ago QPR was bought as the new plaything for the billionaire trio of Bernie Ecclestone, Flavio Briatore and Vijay Mittal. Big money was spent in season one to turn Rangers into a steady Championship side, but this time round promotion is the realistic target for the Super Hoops.
The West Londoners’ latest foray in the transfer market has been to secure the season-long loan of Spurs’ trickster Adel Tarbaat. Having impressed on loan at Loftus Road at the back-end of last season Taarabt has been quickly snapped up by QPR, and the confident 20-year-old Moroccan couldn’t be happier.
Taarabt: “There was a lot of interest in me. I had opportunities to go to clubs in Italy, Spain and France but Tottenham said they wanted me to play in the Championship. As soon as they said that, I knew I wanted to come back to QPR. The fans played an important part in that decision, because they seemed to like how I play. This is a decisive season for me personally. I hope to play regularly, I want to do well for myself, the club and the fans.”
