Trailing 1-nil from the first leg in Aktobe, Israel’s reigning champions Hapoel Tel Aviv had it all to do on Tuesday night in the Champions League as they looked to turn they tie on it’s head.
Hapoel, though, went about the task admirably as they tore through the Kazakhstanis with a devastating first half performance. Scoring three goals in 19 minutes the Israelis achieved their goals quicker than most would have predicted, but they did get a helping hand from Aktobe defender Khalifa Elhadj Ba who scored a tremendous howler for the third goal of the game.
Under no immediate pressure whatsoever, it looked impossible that Elhadj Ba could end up putting the ball into his own net when he looked to clear his lines over 20-yards away from his goal. But a combination of incredibly bad luck and even worse technique resulted with one of the most comical own-goal lobs likely to be seen this year.
Khalifa Elhadj Ba’s once-in-a-lifetime screw-up can be seen here.
