Mogi Mirim, the little known Brazilian club who play their football in Brazil’s Paulista A1 league, have hit the headlines this week after midfielder Luis Mario scored an incredible goal from well inside his own half during his side’s 3-1 victory over Rio Preto in the Copa Paulista on Sunday.
Previously Mogi Mirim were best known for having former Brazil superstar Rivaldo as their club president, and the great man would have been proud to have bagged a goal like this in his glittering career.
The goal of the game was scored early in the second half, with Mogi Mirim already in the ascendancy holding a 2-1 lead.
Picking up the ball deep in his own half, Luis Mario evaded a challenge before advancing towards the halfway-line with the ball. Then, after seeing the visitors’ keeper dangerously off his line, Mario tried the exceptional – whacking a shot from fully 60-yards which sailed over the keeper’s head before dropping in the back of the net.
Luis Mario’s incredible 60-yard strike can be seen here.
