When you score eight goals in a match it stands to reason that at least one will be a cracker. And so it proved for Partizan Belgrade on Wednesday night as the Serbs pummelled Welsh amateurs Rhyl, 12-nil on aggregate, to set up a Champions League third-round qualifying match with Greek outfit APOEL FC.
Partizan netted from their first attack in the fourth minute when Senegalese striker Lamine Diarra fired a shot inside the near post. However it was Brazilian forward Cleo Cleverson who raised the roof with a stunning second on 17 minutes by way of an acrobatic scissors-kick.
Partizan’s right-winger Nemanja Tomic started the move by whipping a low cross into the near post. With the Rhyl defense off the pace the ball fell to Cleo and, with time in his favour, the forward took a touch to cushion the ball into the air before the spectacular unfolded.
Smooth, in one motion and technically perfect, Cleo then leapt off the ground and crashed home a stunning scissors-kick that ripped into the top corner.
Cleo went on the claim a hat-trick in the victory.
