“It’s fun to get his name in history books.” -Â Erik Mjelde.
Friday night in Norway saw Haugesund host Brann in a thrilling 3-3 encounter, and the contest got off to a rip-roaring start as striker Erik Mjelde netted the fastest goal ever recorded in Tippeligaen history.
Brann won the kick off and immediately the men in red launched the ball upfield. Instead of finding a teammate however, Brann lost possession to Haugesund midfielder Umaru Bangura, who in turn had the good intention of settling down his teammates by passing the ball back to his own goalie.
The problem was, though, that Bangura had failed to spot forward Erik Mjelde lurking behind his own backline.
Eyes down, Bangura then watched his backpass turn into a through-ball for the striker, and one-on-one with the keeper Mjelde easily found the bottom corner.
