Quite why River Plate and Boca Juniors decided to have a friendly before the Argentine season started is beyond us, but some of the ensuing footage and numbers are quite incredible.
Presumably, River and Boca knew that a friendly would be lucrative so set up this match to prepare for the Primera Division which starts in early February.
River Plate won 1-0 thanks to an early penalty from Leonardo Pisculichi but no one is too interested in the goal or the victory with so much violence on display!
No less than 5 players were sent off in the match, nine others were booked, including Carlos Tevez and the referee handed out 40 fouls.
A horrific challenge from Boca’s Jonathan Silva on Gabriel Mercado got the ball rolling on the red cards. Silva was making his debut. Mercado played no more part in the “friendly”.
Gino Peruzzi was the next to go for Boca, for another x-rated challenge. Daniel Diaz then made it three Boca players off the pitch for insulting the referee.
River only joined the sending off party in the final minutes. Jonathan Maidana went for a headbutt on Carlos Tevez and Leonardo Pisculichi also saw red for his involvement.
Incredibly, Carlos Tevez called for his side to “grow up” after the game.
When Tevez is the voice of reason etc…
