Xavi has signed for Qatari club Al-Sadd, beIN Sports have confirmed.
The Barcelona midfield maestro has been free to speak with other clubs since signing a one year contract last summer, and rumours have abounded that he’d leave the Catalans this summer.
With Xavi gradually losing his place in the starting lineup to the ever-improving Ivan Rakitic, if Xavi were to stay on another year, his role would have been increasingly marginal, so it looks as though he’s made the right decision.
But it will undoubtedly be a wrench for the Catalan to leave his hometown club, where he came through the ranks and won every trophy on offer in his glittering career.
MLS and other exotic destinations have often been broached, but Qatar is now confirmed, with Xavi flying out to meet with the club’s representatives to thrash out the deal.
The Sporting Director of the Qatari club, Mohammed Ghanem also intimated as much on his Instagram account, posing in a picture next to his new signing.
