46.1% of Real Madrid fans would drop Gareth Bale. 32.2% would cut Cristiano Ronaldo [AS]

Things are not going well for Real Madrid at the moment.

Two terrible weekends on the trot have seen Carlo Ancelotti’s side give up pole position in the Spanish top flight, as FC Barcelona have taken full advantage of Real’s slip-ups.

After drawing 1-1 at home to Villarreal, Los Blancos lost 1-0 away at Athletic Bilbao last weekend.

Barcelona, meanwhile, thumped Rayo 6-1, as Luis Enrique’s charges leapfrogged the Madridistas into first place.

Looking to understand why Real Madrid are doing so badly, AS have canvassed opinion from fans on the current slump at the Santiago Bernabeu.

According to Monday’s poll in AS, a massive 92.1% of fans believe Real need to ditch their current system to revert to a 4-4-2 formation instead.

Were Real to switch their line-up to 4-4-2, one of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema would likely be dropped, and the polling data from AS revealed the fans’ opinions as follows.

46.1% of supporters believe Gareth Bale should be dropped, 32.2% think Cristiano Ronaldo should be cut, while Karim Benzema courted the most favouritism from fans with just 21.7% of the vote.
