18 years later, Mauro Camoranesi is ordered to pay £40,000 for a gruesome tackle he made in 1994

The wheels of justice turn slowly in Argentina.

After a ridiculously lengthy court procedure, the Buenos Aires Supreme Court ratified a decision of its lower chambers on Thursday to order Mauro Camoranesi to pay £40,000 plus interest in compensation and damages for a nasty tackle he made in 1994.

Camoranesi, the former Juventus star who currently plying his trade at Lanus at the ripe old age of 35, is finally being punished after he took out Roberto Pizzo 18 years ago.

The incident came about in an encounter in the Mar del Plata league south of Buenos Aires. Camoranesi was playing for Aldosivi at the time while Roberto Pizzo was representing Alvarado.

As noted in a lower court’s ruling, “although it is not possible to describe Camoranesi’s action as deliberately intentional, it was incredibly clumsy… abnormal and avoidable.”

Footage of Mauro Camoranesi’s gruesome tackle on Roberto Pozzi can be seen below.
