Freiburg are back into the top four after a swift return to the win column last weekend as Christian Streich’s men head into this game off the back of beating Stuttgart with VfL Bochum up next for the fourth-placed side.
Prior to their win over Stuttgart, Freiburg were one of those teams seemingly hit by the pause in action because of the winter and World Cup breaks. Now, however, they are into the last eight in the DFB-Pokal after beating Sandhausen, just before they defeated Stuttgart.
It leaves the club in fourth and behind Dortmund by just three points, as they still sit only six behind Bayern Munich and they can still count themselves as contenders in this title race.
As for Bochum, it’s now two losses in a row for them in Germany, as they were defeated only narrowly by Borussia Dortmund in the DFB-Pokal round of 16 two weeks back, just before Bayern smashed them 3-0 at home.
It leaves the club in 15th, however, and in the safe spots of the division by two points. There are also no games in hand to play, but with 49 goals now let in for Bochum, there is still a lot of fear circling the club.
