Victor Lindelof made his Man United debut in the club’s 5-2 friendly win over LA Galaxy on their pre-season tour of America. Coming off the bench, he lined up in an unexpected 3-4-3 formation that could also be interpreted as 3-5-2.
Fans weren’t expecting Mourinho to experiment with this formation. Did Lindelof? The Swede is used to playing in a back four from his time with Benfica but occasionally adapted to different formations.
Thoughts on three at the back
He aired his thoughts on playing with three at the back in an interview with club channel MUTV.
“It felt very good, I am very happy to have made my debut for this great club,” Lindelof said.
“We won as well so I am very happy. It felt good, it is the first game so it is a bit different. I am not used to playing with three at the back, but it felt good in a way and I am very happy.
“It is the first game and I am really looking forward to playing more games. It felt good.
“I like to play games, I like to train as well, but the games are more fun so I prefer the games.”
