After the 0-0 draw with Real Madrid at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday, Manchester City sporting director Txiki Begiristain fielded some questions from reporters.
One of the questions was whether the Sky Blues could make a move for Cristiano Ronaldo.
In an unexpected twist, Begiristain didn’t dismiss the question out of hand. He could have easily deflected the question saying it’s not good manners to talk publicly about players who are under contract at other clubs.
But Begiristain didn’t do that.
Instead he gave a long winded reply, talking about finishing the season, introducing Pep Guardiola, and planning for the future.
And on the specific Ronaldo question, Begiristain kind of fudged the answer saying “I think he’s happy at Real Madrid.”
But what if he wasn’t happy or could be persuaded to leave?
