Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale yesterday showed glimpses of his old self with a scintillating solo goal versus Real Sociedad.
Week 4 matchup
The two sides went head-to-head in a La Liga clash at the Estadio Anoeta last night, with Zinedine Zidane’s Blancos desperate for a win after dropping 4 points in their opening 3 league fixtures.
An early goal from young striker Borja Mayoral put the visitors in front early on, but Sociedad’s Kevin Rodrigues levelled things up just before the half-hour mark after an uncharacteristic mistake from Keylor Navas in the Real goal.
Rodrigues then put through his own net less than 10 minutes later following more good work for Mayoral, before Bale sealed the win for the Spanish champions 15 minutes into the second-half.
A perfectly-weighted chipped ball from Isco saw Bale set off in a sprint from a couple of yards behind the heavily-involved Rodrigues, with the explosive Welshman proving that he has not lost any of his scintillating pace following a number of injury problems over the past couple of seasons.
Bale proceeded to breeze past the Sociedad left-back with consummate ease, before taking the ball in his stride and dinking a delicate finish over the onrushing Geronimo Rulli.
