‘He’ll be back’

Wayne Rooney is currently a substitute for Manchester United. But he will be back, Michael Owen smugly assured BT Sport viewers last night. The United captain was warming up with the other benched players before the Europa League tie with Zorya Luhansk. Back to his best, Owen promised. However, despite coming on and grabbing an ‘assist’, Rooney continues to disappoint.

Scholes is certain

Both Owen and Paul Scholes are former teammates of Rooney’s at club and international level. It wasn’t a surprise to see them sticking up for a man who is probably their friend. Scholes went as far as saying that he was ‘certain’ that he would be back for the biggest games. United have no shortage of them coming up.

United face Liverpool, Chelsea, Fenerbahce and Manchester City in the next few weeks. We’ll see if Scholes is proved right. Watch the pair defend Rooney below.
