Man United’s academy & scouting has fallen way behind their rivals, even Liverpool (BBC 5 Live audio)

Journalist Any Mitten was guest on BBC 5 Live radio over the weekend, and he discussed how Manchester United’s academy and scouting systems have fallen way behind their Premier League rivals, including Man City.

The revelations come after a series of recent articles in the Times which disclosed that Man United are desperately trying to revamp their youth setup as a senior figure at Carrington – Derek Langley, United’s head of youth player recruitment – has decided it’s time to quit the club.

Andy Mitten has written extensively about United’s academy, and he’s explained that there is a “big problem” inside the club, that is still there today.

Man United’s U18s, for example, are on a disastrous run of form. They are second bottom of their league.

Mitten has confirmed that senior players and officials inside Old Trafford are also frustrated with the state of the club and, without naming names, those club insiders have revealed their fears to the journalist.

According to the report, even Everton and Liverpool are overtaking Man United in their youth recruitment.
