Footage surrounding Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has been going viral online this week, after one of the Brazilian’s trademark goal-kicks for the Selecao versus Chile.
Ederson, who arrived at the Etihad from Portuguese outfit Benfica this summer, has to this point impressed in a Manchester City jersey, proving a far more reliable option than either Joe Hart or Claudio Bravo, who are both still owned by the club.
Along with the likes of Kyle Walker, Benjamin Mendy and Danilo, who all also arrived at the club this summer, Ederson has helped the Citizens to put their defensive struggles of last season behind them, with Pep Guardiola’s men having racked up 7 clean sheets in their 10 games this season.
Along with his excellent shot-stopping abilities, the 24-year-old has long been complimented for his talents on the ball, a trait which proved crucial in Guardiola’s choice of Ederson as his new no.1.
However, the South American star’s ability with his feet does not lie simply with his control and passing around his own box, with Ederson also known as possessing a secret weapon from goal-kicks.
Incredibly, the Sao Paulo youth product is capable of kicking the ball almost the length of the pitch without a bounce from his own goal-kicks, a gift which he displayed perfectly during Brazil’s recent 3-0 World Cup qualifying victory over Chile.
Having spotted Manchester City teammate Gabriel Jesus making a darting run through the centre of the pitch, Ederson planted one of his trademark set-pieces over the heads of Chile’s defenders and onto the edge of their box.
Jesus’ touch let him down, but the feat was nonetheless an incredible one from the Selecao shot-stopper.
