Ian Wright sticks up for Wayne Rooney after breaking Man United record (Video)

Rooney equals Charlton’s record

Sir Bobby Charlton’s record had been hanging over Wayne Rooney for some time.

Given how his goals output has gradually dried up over the past couple of years, Rooney was crawling agonizingly closer to the record, but he finally equalled it yesterdday.

Wazza got himself on the scoresheet after just 7 minutes against Reading yesterday, and in so doing, equalled Sir Bobby Charlton’s record of 249 goals for the club.

Despite his amazing achievements, Rooney still comes in for criticism, quite simply because he hasn’t lived up to the hype he didn’t even create.

Speaking on BT Sport yesterday, Ian Wright, Kevin Davies and Steve McManaman stuck up for Rooney, insisting the criticism is unfair.
