Sunderland-owned midfielder Wahbi Khazri this evening scored an incredible back-heel on his Ligue 1 debut for Rennes.
Khazri, a 26-year-old Tunisian international, was highly-regarded by regular viewers of French football for his spells with Bastia and Bordeaux, due to his ability to both create and score goals from his midfield berth.
Despite having been linked with moves to a number of top European sides, however, it was then-Premier League outfit Sunderland who eventually decided to splash out an undisclosed fee thought to be in the region of £10 million on his signature last January.
However, he struggled to rediscover his previous form during his spell with the Black Cats, with the difficulties endured by David Moyes’ side in the English top-flight last season having made it tough for any of the club’s attacking players to display their abilities.
Unsurprisingly, Sunderland agreed to loan Khazri out this summer, with the African talent having secured a return to Ligue 1 on the 31st of August, this time with Christian Gourcuff’s Rennes.
And he could hardly have dreamed of getting off to a better start with Les Rouges et Noires, after netting a brilliant back-heeled finish just 2 minutes into his debut versus Marseille earlier this evening.
