Following Pedro’s stunning opener versus Watford this afternoon, Chelsea’s players decided to involve one of the club’s stewards in their celebrations.
The two sides went head to head in a Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge, with the visitors having proven the surprise package of the English top-flight so far this season.
Marco Silva’s men had picked up 15 points from their first 8 fixtures, leaving them in 4th, 2 points and one spot ahead of champions Chelsea.
Back and forth
The Hornets started out proceedings in impressive fashion once again today, keeping control of the ball and looking slick and dangerous in possession.
However, the Blues soon made their way back into things, with the power and quality of Antonio Conte’s side on full display.
Eden Hazard, who received yet another start in his return from injury, looked hugely impressive from the off, and it was the diminutive Belgian who set up his side’s opener.
After being played through down the right by Alvaro Morata, Hazard attempted to cut the ball back at the end-line, but was met by a good challenge from Watford stopper Miguel Britos.
The ball clearly came back off the Chelsea winger’s heel before crossing the end-line, but was surprisingly awarded as a corner by the onlooking linesman.
And this incorrect decision proved hugely costly for Watford, with Hazard’s short corner eventually being pulled back to Pedro Rodriguez, who proceeded to whip the most sumptuous of efforts across the face of goal and in off the far post.
The goal sparked mass celebrations from Chelsea’s players, bench and fans, with the Blues desperate to put their three-match winless streak behind them.
In fact, Antonio Conte’s players got so caught up in their post-goal revelling, that one of Stamford Bridge’s unsuspecting stewards was dragged into the scene.
Pedro started things off, before fellow Spaniards Alvaro Morata and Cesc Fabregas both followed their goalscorer’s lead, with the steward seemingly enjoying his brief moment of fame.
