The clash between Arsenal and West Bromwich Albion at the Emirates this evening saw Nacho Monreal produce an incredible goal-saving clearance during the first-half.
The two sides went head-to-head in a Premier League clash in North London, with Arsenal wary of losing further ground on the English top flight’s other giants after all of Manchester United, City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham won over the weekend.
Following a controversial start to proceedings which saw West Brom have a blatant penalty turned down by referee Bobby Madley after a poor challenge from Shkodran Mustafi on Jay Rodriguez, Alexandre Lacazette gave the Gunners the lead with 20 minutes on the clock.
An Alexis Sanchez free-kick from the edge of the box came back off the crossbar, with summer signing Lacazette doing exactly what is expected of him in nodding in the rebound.
Lacazette later doubled his tally for the day with a perfectly-placed penalty after Aaron Ramsey was taken out by Baggies stopper Allan Nyom.
However, Arsenal did not have it all their own way, with Tony Pulis’ Baggies creating a number of clear-cut opportunities during the opening 45 minutes.
The best of all of these chances fell to Jay Rodriguez, who had earlier hit the post after his aforementioned penalty call was turned down.
The former Southampton star’s second opportunity came about after a perfectly-flighted ball towards the back post from Grzegorz Krychowiak, with Rodriguez aiming a downward header past the scrambling Cech.
It looked for all intents and purposes as though West Brom had equalised, before an incredible intervention from Gunners stopper Nacho Monreal:
