Liverpool hero Steven Gerrard has posted a classy message on his Instagram page praising the career of former team-mate Xabi Alonso.
The Spaniard has announced that he will retire at the end of season after an illustrious career.
Alonso joined the Anfield side in 2004 and went on to win several honours including the Champions League in 2005.
Having made 143 appearances for the club, Xabi moved to Real Madrid in 2009 and made a further 158 appearances for Los Blancos.
Alonso then moved to Bayern Munich in 2014 and remains there until the end of his career in a few months time.
Gerrard’s emotional message surely touched a few people, with Steven explaining “I missed you every day from the moment you left”.
When Alonso retires at the end of the season, there is no doubt he can be proud of what he achieved.
The Spaniard won both the European Championships and the World Cup on the International stage as well as club honours.
He won the Champions League with both Liverpool and Real Madrid as well as two Bundesliga titles.
