Video Evidence: Liverpool scouting 16-year-old Sevilla winger Luis Alberto

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

The Sun report this Thursday that Liverpool are interested in signing “brilliant teenage Sevilla winger Luis Alberto, 16.” According to the grapevine, the highly-rated youngster has been personally targeted by Rafa Benitez who has reportedly ordered his scouts to watch Alberto seven times.

Alberto turns 17 in September and is still on amateur terms at Sevilla but is expected to break into the first team next season.

Sevilla sporting director Ramon Rodriquez Monchi said: “We are prepared to present an interesting proposition to Luis Alberto and to confirm his continuity in our club.”

However, The Sun quote a “close friend of the player” who said: “while it is Luis’s dream to make a big impact in Spain he wants to know about the Liverpool proposition.”

Liverpool scouts were present to see Luis Alberto star in the recent Copa de Rey junior tournament in Malaga, which Sevilla won 3-2 in the final against Atletico Bilbao (pictured). Video highlights of the final can be seen below, including Luis Alberto’s equaliser to level the scores at 1-1, which can be seen at 1.25.

Video evidence of Luis Alberto can be seen here.

  2. paul Says:

Hang on a minute, he’s already signed, that happened weeks ago ??

  3. Ronaldo Assis de Moreira Says:

    Samuel charles & Paul,

As far as I can tell he hasn’t signed for Liverpool yet. There is no mention of him on the official site and reports in Spain say Liverpool are set to make an offer.

Sky Sports have also run this Sun report this morning.

We have loads of these young foreign players at the club, This is why we don’t need to spend silly money at the moment. It’s a pity the press choose not to mention it when they slag us off, Rafa has been on the case for the last 3 years so hopefully we will see some coming through as they did last season.

i dont think he has signed either, never seen it mentioned myself. not mentioned in any of our youth squads, which he would be in at 16/17, and also, samuel, it wouldnt be a pre-contract agreement, because as far as i can tell, youth players in spain dont have contracts thus why they are “nicked” so easily, so if a contract was agreed, he would move immediately.

where did you read that he has signed? would be interesting to find out the source

  6. Tobi Says:

The final was against Atletico Bilbao, not Atletico Madrid.

  7. Ronaldo Assis de Moreira Says:

    Cheers Tobi. Fixed.
