As football spun out of control during the Christmas and New Year period we decided to hold off on our usual top goals of the week list, but time has now come to highlight the best netbusters during the holiday season.
A cheeky backheel from the beginning of the festive season gets the list up and running, and on the subject of running, goal two provides a sublime solo stunner from the biggest name to emerge from Chilean football since the likes of Salas and Zamarano.
Arabic football, not constricted by the Christian calendar, continued it’s football schedule unabated over the past few weeks and duly served up some crackers. That included a wonderful give-go-and-chip goal from Egypt at spot three, and a terrific goal from the halfway-line at number four.
The long-range rippers were also in fashion in Scotland (goal 5), whilst the over in England the notion of scoring from distance was given a whole new meaning by US keeper Tim Howard.
The 3rd round of the FA Cup had a selection of sparkling moments over the weekend that included a golazo from Oldham at Anfield, a jaw-droppingly good goal on the turn at Macclesfield, and a but magnifique from one of Newcastle’s French imports.
The list ends off in Italy, where a 20-year-old defender opened his San Siro account with a goal he’ll remember throughout his career.
Vote on your top goal of the week below and, as is custom, sit back and enjoy!
