The film Pep Guardiola showed to the Barcelona players before they beat Manchester United

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

In the hours following the Champions League final last Wednesday, it was revealed that Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola had showed his players an inspirational video ten minutes before kick-off to get them in the mood for their subsequent performance.

The film mixes images from the film Gladiator and the soundtrack includes the opera Turandot performed by Italian legend Pavarotti. It includes some of the finest moments of all the members of the Barcelona squad, even those that didn’t play (e.g. Dani Alves) or were unlikely to get off the bench (e.g. Eidur Gudjohnsen).

According to reports, the film moved several of the players to tears and has been hailed as a masterstroke by the rookie manager who doesn’t appear in the movie.

Last night it was shown on Catalonia’s public television channel TV3 and it can be seen on this video.

Wow. That was moving, the Pavarotti overture as it climaxes is enough to move anybody.
If that was Guardiola’s idea he truly is a genius.
    Cheers for linking it 101.

That was quite brilliant. I got goosebumps watching it, so i could imagine the players reaction.

If this was the idea of Guardiola he is indeed a genius.

Soooooooo cheesy but i can see why it would motivate the team. Guardiola knows what he’s at. So often coaches have either the ability to coach or the ability to galvanize the team. This guy has both.

  4. Obi Says:

So that’s why they were so bad for the first 10 minutes.
