West Bromwich Albion Football Club was founded in 1878, originally as West Bromwich Strollers. The club’s nickname is the Baggies.

 

West Brom’s traditional home kit features navy blue and white stripes. The club’s crest features a song thrush sitting on a hawthorn branch.

 

The club play their home matches at the Hawthorns. The stadium has a capacity of 26,850 and has been West Brom’s home since 1900.

 

In the 2004-05, manager Bryan Robson guided West Brom to relegation safety on the last day of the season, in what became known as “The Great Escape”. Albion became the first Premier League team to have been bottom of the log at Christmas and still avoid relegation.

 

The club have won the top tier of English football on one occasion, back in 1920. West Brom have also won four FA Cups, a League Cup and two Charity Shields.

 

Tony Brown holds the record for most club appearances and most club goals, having scored 218 goals in his 574 appearances. Other notable players to have played for the club include Jeff Astle, Bryan Robson, Jason Roberts and Don Howe.

 

Fred Everiss managed 1520 games for the club, more than any other West Brom manager. Notable managers in the club’s more recent history include Roy Hodgson, Tony Mowbray and Gary Megson.
