Newcastle Jets 1 - Sydney FC 2 (A-League, December 7, 2008) Jobe Wheelhouse raced onto a through-ball and drove a powerful volley into the corner of the net to give the Jets an 11th minute lead. Sydney struck back almost immediately through Iain Fyfe’s back-post header, and Brendan Gan came off the bench to claim the winner for the visitors.

Jovan Kirovski fired the Galaxy into a third minute lead, Alan Gordon headed the second, and Brandon McDonald completed the scoring in the 30th minute when he was left unmarked at the far post to nod in.
