About Wayne Rooney
Wayne Rooney was born on 24 October 1985 In Liverpool, England. He plays as a striker for Manchester United and is the club’s captain.
Rooney is a product of Everton’s youth academy, having joined the side in 1996. Rooney made his senior debut on 17 August 2002 in a 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur. On October 19, Rooney became the Premier League’s youngest ever goalscorer after scoring a last-minute winner against Arsenal.
At 18 years old, Rooney signed for Manchester United for a fee of £25.6 million. Rooney scored a hat-trick on his Manchester United debut in a 6-2 win over Fenerbahce in the Champions League, becoming the youngster player to ever to do so. Rooney ended his first season in Manchester with 17 goals.
The following season Rooney scored 19 goals and won his first senior trophy, the League Cup. For the second season in a row, Rooney won the PFA Young Player of the Year. More goals and more trophies were to follow. Rooney scored his 230th goal for the club in the 2014-15 season.
With Manchester United Rooney has won five Premier League titles, two League Cups, three Community Shields, the Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup. On 27 September 2014, in a 2-1 win over West Ham, Rooney scored his 176th Premier League goal to move up to the third in the competition’s all-time topscorers list, overtaking Thierry Henry.
Rooney made his England debut on 12 February 2003 in a friendly defeat to Australia, becoming the youngest player to have ever played for England. Later that year he became England’s youngest ever goalscorer (17 years and 317 days) when he scored in a 2-1 qualifying win over Macedonia. Rooney has since gone on to make over 100 appearances for the Three Lions and has become one of the country’s most prolific goalscorers. In November 2009, Rooney captained England for the first time in a friendly match against Greece.
