Neymar da Silva Santos Junior, or simply Neymar, was born on 5 February 1992 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The forward currently plays for Barcelona and is regarded as one of the best young players in world football.
Neymar joined Santos’ youth side in 2003 and made his debut for the club in 2009. In his first season with the club, Neymar scored 14 goals in 48 appearances. The following season Neymar scored 42 goals, as Santos won the Campeonato Paulista. In August 2010, Neymar was the subject of a bid from Chelsea in the region of £25 million. The bid was rejected and instead, Neymar signed a five-year contract with Santos.
Neymar spent a further two and a half seasons at Santos, winning five more trophies including the 2011 Copa Libertadores title. Neymar ended his Santos career with 136 goals in 225 appearances. In 2011, Neymar won the FIFA Puskas Award for scoring the best goal of the year.
On 3 June 2013, Neymar signed for Barcelona for a fee of €57.1 million. Neymar scored 15 goals in his first season with the club. In his second season, Neymar combined in a lethal strike force with Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi to help Barcelona win the European treble. Neymar ended the campaign with 39 goals in all competitions.
Neymar made his debut for Brazil on 10 August 2010 in a friendly match against USA. The 18-year-old scored 28 minutes into his debut. In 2013, Neymar helped Brazil win the FIFA Confederations Cup and finished as the tournament’s top scorer. He also part of Brazil’s Olympic side to win silver at the 2012 London Olympics. In 2014, Neymar made his 60th appearance for his national team, despite only being 22. He is already one of the country’s top scorers, with over 40 goals to his name.
