About James Rodriguez
James Rodriguez was born on 12 July 1991 in Cucuta, Colombia. He is often referred to simply as James. He plays as an attacking midfielder or winger for the Colombia national team and Real Madrid. Rodriguez won the Golden Boot at the 2014 World Cup.
Rodriguez joined Colombian side Envigado in 1995. Working his way up the youth ranks, he made his professional debut for the side in 2007 and helped the team achieve promotion to the Colombian first division.
Rodriguez signed for Argentine side Banfield in 2008, making his debut for the side on 7 February 2009. He spent two seasons with the club, scoring 10 in goals in 50 appearances and helping the side win the 2009 Apertura.
On 6 July 2010, Rodriguez signed for FC Porto for a fee of €5.1 million. He won three consecutive Primeira Liga titles with Porto as well as the Taca de Portugal, Europa League and three Portuguese Super Cups. In 2012, James won the Portuguese Golden Ball.
On 24 May 2013, Rodriguez signed for AS Monaco for a fee of €45 million. James spent just one season with the French club, scoring 12 goals in 38 appearances and was named the club’s Player of the Season.
After a sensational 2014 World Cup with Colombia, Real Madrid signed James for a fee of €80 million. He made his debut in the 2014 UEFA Super Cup win against Sevilla. James scored his first goal for the club against arch-rivals Atletico Madrid on 19 August and ended his first season with the 17 goals.
Rodriguez made his Colombia debut on 11 October 2011 against Bolovia, where he was named man of the match. James scored 6 goals at the 2014 World Cup, earning him the Golden Boot. Among the goals was a sensational volley against Uruguay, which won Goal of the Tournament as well as the FIFA Puskas Award. Rodriguez’s brother-in-law is Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina.
