Gary Cahill faces off against Tubes in tennis ball keepy-uppy challenge (Video)

gary cahill tennis ball keepy-uppies

In the latest challenge thrown down by Tubes, Chelsea defender Gary Cahill stepped up to the plate to see which one of them could do the most tennis ball keepy-uppies.

It sounds like a silly challenge, as though the professional footballer would obviously win, but Tubes is rather decent at football. He managed more than 60 volleys.

However, the challenge is for the most keepy-uppies in a minute, meaning participants can drop the ball and carry on with their volley record intact. Feels strange.

See the challenge in the video below.

Chelsea 2 – Barcelona 2: Hazard & Cahill find the target before Blues win a shootout (Official highlights)

Chelsea beat FC Barcelona 4-2 on penalties after a thrilling 2-2 draw at the International Champions Cup.

Eden Hazard gave Chelsea the lead in an entertaining first half with a fine solo effort after just 10 minutes.

After the break, Barca took control, as Luis Suarez took advantage of a mistake to beat Thibaut Courtois in the 52nd minute.

Sandro Ramirez then gave Barca the lead with a sweet strike in the 66th minute, before poor goalkeeping from Jordi Masip allowed Gary Cahill to equalise late on for the Blues.

The match went to penalties, where Chelsea scored 4 out of 4 spot-kicks (Loic Remy with the winner), after Barcelona’s Gerard Pique and Alen Halilovic missed their opportunities.

Everton fans slam Chelsea for Gary Cahill’s public tapping up of John Stones [Best Tweets]

On Wednesday Chelsea defender Gary Cahill gave the Daily Mail an exclusive interview in which he effectively tapped up John Stones in the public eye.

Still only 21, John Stones is being billed by many as a future England captain after some superb performances in the heart of the Everton defence.

Chelsea have been heavily linked with a record breaking £30m+ move for the young defender over the past few days.

The 29-year-old Gary Cahill urged John Stones to make the big money move to Chelsea and even spoke at length about how easily he would settle in West London.

‘In terms of ambition, if you’re a young player in the game, have played in the Premier League like he did a lot last year, and a big club comes calling, it’s very difficult to turn down because you want to achieve the most you can in the short period you have in your career as a professional footballer.

‘When a top club comes calling, who you know will be firing on all fronts with competitions and medals, that’s ultimately what you want to be playing for. It’s hard to turn down of course.

‘He will look at the club, look at the players, and look at being involved in a squad like ours.

‘With the right support around him, like from the more experienced players in the squad, and his family, I’m sure he’ll be fine.

‘Personality wise he would fit into the group straight away. Potentially, he can be a top player, not just for us but also for England.

‘I think England will benefit too because he will get more experience playing in the Premier League and also the Champions League. I’m sure he will become a bigger and better player for that.’

Everton fans on social media were, understandably, furious with the remarks made by the England international.

John Terry & Gary Cahill return to pre-season training early [Instagram video]

Chelsea captain John Terry seems as fired up as ever going into the 2015/2016 Premier League season.

After lifting the Premier League trophy last season, Terry has posted videos and pictures on Instagram throughout his summer break, following individual training sessions.

The 34-year-old is clearly eager to hit the ground running and has posted pictures and video of an individual training session yesterday with central defensive partner Gary Cahill.

Chelsea’s first team squad return to training next week, ahead of a trip to the USA for some glamorous pre-season friendlies.

Chelsea and England defender Gary Cahill teaches kids how to defend crosses [Video]

gary cahill tutors kids, may 2015

Chelsea and England defender Gary Cahill was recently on hand to teach a bunch of lucky youngsters how to defend crosses.

Sky Sports accompanied the player to their training pitch and watched him give his best tutorial in dealing with balls into the box.

Cahill tells the children that it’s essential to communicate with your defensive teammates and important to be positionally aware in the video below.

Chelsea man Gary Cahill teaches kids how to defend crosses [Video]

Chelsea man Gary Cahill helped out with Playstation School’s Cup with this lesson in defending crosses.

The solid centre-half, whose developed into one of England’s best defenders since his move from Bolton to Chelsea, showed the kids the ropes on how best to defend crosses.

Cahill explained how important communication is, and that the most important thing is to get the ball away from danger, and not to worry about always getting perfect contact on the clearance.

John Terry & Gary Cahill’s interview interrupted by champagne spray in Chelsea dressing room [Video]

The champagne flowed like water in the Chelsea dressing room after their win over Crystal Palace today – 3 points that saw them clinch the Premier League title.

Barclays had laid on magnum upon magnum of the finest bubbly for Chelsea to celebrate with, and the corks were popped literally the moment they returned to the dressing room.

And it didn’t stop during John Terry and Gary Cahill’s interview with Chelsea TV, as the defensive unit was sprayed in the face with bubbly by Didier Drogba and others.

Gary Cahill calls Chelsea’s match v Crystal Palace this weekend a ‘cup final’ [Audio]

Gary Cahill believes that Chelsea’s match against Crystal Palace on Sunday will be a cup final, while the Blues centre-half has confirmed that nobody inside the Chelsea squad have begun celebrating the title yet.

After their 3-1 win at Leicester in midweek, Jose Mourinho’s side know they will wrap up the title if they can score maximum points against Palace at Stamford Bridge this weekend.

In a slightly strange description, Cahill told the people at Talksport:

It is such an important game for us. Obviously, you need no motivation for it. It is a cup final for us.

Cahill gave his insight into the qualities of Eden Hazard and John Terry in the interview.

Alex Oxlaide-Chamberlain & Gary Cahill take the Rugby Crossbar Challenge [Video]

England’s rugby and football teams came together this week for a game of crossbar challenge – with the oval ball.

Chelsea’s Gary Cahill and Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain took on the Rose’s George Ford and Jack Nowell, trying to hit the crossbar from some 30 metres out, through a combination of strikes from the hand and from the ground.

Alas, the football lads couldn’t quite get to grips with the oval-shaped ball, and didn’t manage to strike the bar.

Not to say that the rugby lads did much better!

Chelsea’s Gary Cahill disappointed with result & performance after CL exit to PSG [Video]

Chelsea goalscorer Gary Cahill probably thought he’d sent Chelsea through last night when he hammered in the opener in the 81st minute.

It was not to be, as PSG fought back on two occasions to go through on away goal after extra time.

The English central defender admitted that he was “bitterly disappointed” both with the result and the Chelsea performance.

Gary Cahill insisted Chelsea can improve and said they’ll look back on the game on Thursday at Cobham.

Watch the video above.

Pretty damning picture of the Chelsea defence for Edinson Cavani goal

Having scored such a crucial away goal in the first half at PSG, through Branislav Ivanovic, Chelsea were second best in the second half at PSG on Tuesday evening.

Laurent Blanc’s side drew level on 54 minutes when Edinson Cavani headed home a Blaise Matuidi cross to send the Parc des Princes into raptures.

As ever when it comes to the Champions League, the PSG goal v Chelsea was scrutinised and the picture above is not particularly flattering to Jose Mourinho’s defence.

There were seven Chelsea players in the box and just two PSG attackers looking threatening with Maxwell on the edge.

In particular, once again, Gary Cahill was caught out by Cavani, just as he was at the World Cup.

Chelsea cannot afford any similar slip-ups at Stamford Bridge in the second leg.

Terry, Cahill & Ivanovic combine for Chelsea goal at PSG [Best Tweets]

Chelsea did not present much attacking threat in the first half of their Champions League match against PSG until Branislav Ivanovic popped up with yet another big goal.

The Serbian defender has made a habit of scoring important goals – notably the Europa League final winner and recently at Aston Villa and versus Liverpool.

It wasn’t just that one defender scored for Chelsea, but the fact that three Blues defenders were involved in the build-up and goal.

John Terry crossed, for Gary Cahill to flick on and Ivanovic to head home.

Considering the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Eden Hazard and Diego Costa have been very quiet so far, Jose Mourinho must be thankful for three stalwart defenders to combine.

With PSG playing quite defensively as well, starting David Luiz in midfield, this was a major blow to Laurent Blanc’s hopes of progressing from the tie.

Jose Mourinho will yet again be thankful for a defensive trio that are crucial to the Blues hopes this season…

Gary Cahill talks about being a Chelsea player and how he deals with abuse [Video]

Ahead of the Champions League tie at PSG, Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has been speaking to Adidas about how he deals with abuse from fans and what it’s like being a Blue.

A model for consistency in the last two seasons, Cahill’s place in the Chelsea backline is under threat from Kurt Zouma after dodgy performances gave the Frenchman an opening.

That has meant a bit of time on the bench recently and Cahill might be vulnerable to a bit of wounding abuse but he insists that he keeps focused and doesn’t let crowd dissent affect him.

He also spoke about superstitions in the dressing room and the level of expectation at Chelsea. Watch his interview in the video above.

Gary Cahill hails massive Chelsea win at Aston Villa [video]

Gary Cahill was restored to the Chelsea starting XI having been in and out of the Blues side since the turn of the year.

The England vice-captain played the full 90 minutes for Chelsea at Villa Park on Saturday as the Blues grabbed a crucial win.

Chelsea’s goals came from Eden Hazard and Branislav Ivanovic as Jose Mourinho finally won a game at Villa Park.

Cahill hailed the “massive” Chelsea win at Villa, but made no mention of Manchester City’s draw at home to Hull.

Chelsea’s Gary Cahill disgracefully kicked & stamped on Tottenham’s Harry Kane [Pictures]

Jose Mourinho may be concerned that Eden Hazard may quit the Premier League because the Belgian is being kicked in supposedly ever Chelsea game, but the Special One should arguably be looking closer to home at the abuse his players can dish out.

Tottenham fans were livid that Gary Cahill avoided a red card at White Hart Lane on Thursday when the defender fouled Harry Kane twice.

In the final stages of the match, and right under the nose of the Chelsea boss stood on the touchline, Cahill first off kicked Kane in the bottom of his back, before the English international defender stamped on the striker’s ankle.

Screen Shot 2015-01-02 at 10.31.48 AM

Both attacks were completely uncalled for and unnecessary, and Cahill could quite easily have been sent off for his behaviour.

Somewhat surprisingly, the Match of the Day show on New Year’s Day failed to highlight this incident in their report on the game.

Jose Mourinho & Steve Bruce completely disagree over Gary Cahill’s dive v Hull [Videos]

Chelsea and Hull managers Jose Mourinho and Steve Bruce had a completely difference of opinion over a dive on Saturday.

Hull manager Bruce was adamant that Chelsea defender Gary Cahill should have been sent off for a “blatant” dive during his side’s 2-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge.

Cahill, already on a yellow card, went down in the Hull box looking for a penalty.

As for Jose Mourinho, the Blues boss was fully behind his defender claiming he didn’t dive.

Watch the complete difference of opinion above and below, including footage of the incident itself.

Chelsea’s Gary Cahill: ‘England can go unbeaten in Euro qualifying’ [Video]

Drawn in an exceptionally easy group, England are top of the table with three wins from three in their qualification campaign for Euro 2016.

With the hardest fixture on paper out of the way and won – Switzerland away – qualification for France is going to be a mere formality for the Three Lions.

So much so that there’s now the feeling that they can go unbeaten through the entire campaign, a possibility Chelsea’s Gary Cahill responded to positively when asked by a reporter today.

Cahill even confidently said ‘It’s likely’, and the next step on that mission is Slovenia on Saturday.

Gary Cahill celebrates goal on Twitter & thanks Chelsea fans for support during 2-1 win at Liverpool

Screen Shot 2014-11-08 at 20.46.33Chelsea defender Gary Cahill netted his first goal of the season, scoring the equaliser in a 2-1 win over Liverpool.

The 28 year old regular took to Twitter on Saturday evening to celebrate both his goal and the result.

Gary Cahill also thanked the travelling Chelsea fans for their support.

It would take a brave (or possibly stupid) man to predict anyone other than Chelsea to win the league this season.

Neville & Carragher analyse impact of Europa League on Spurs & Everton [Video]

Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville were at their sparkling best on last night’s Monday Night Football show.

They analysed the impact of the Europa League on European clubs, especially on Premier League sides Tottenham and Everton.

Jamie Carragher thinks the format needs to change as those involved in the competition are struggling in the domestic leagues.

Tottenham have an awful record after Europa League trips and Gary Neville certainly agreed with the former Liverpool man.

Schürrle records Chelsea teammates Azpilicueta & Cahill playing table tennis

After training today, a few of the Chelsea players moved indoors for a spot of the old whiff-whaff.

Cezar Azpilicueta took on fellow defender Gary Cahill, and Andre Schurrle recorded a rally on his phone, which ‘Gaz’ eventually one.

Schurrle then turned the focus around on himself and said ‘Oh my Days’…I don’t get it.

England’s Gary Cahill says last ditch clearance against Switzerland felt better than scoring

Danny Welbeck may have stolen the show against Switzerland but England’s night could have been very different had Gary Cahill not been in the right place at the right time.

Josip Drmic had rounded Joe Hart and casually slotted the ball towards what he thought was an unguarded net only for Cahill to emerge and save the day.

The Chelsea defender spoke to the FA’s official website about how good it feels to make those kind of blocks: “Sometimes when you save a goal like that, it feels like you’ve scored one. It was just an off-the-cuff reaction. As a defender, sometimes it feels as good as goals, and it felt like that.”

England’s victory last night was a massive boost to Roy Hodgson who was coming under a bit of pressure for the way his side played as well as the results achieved. But the 2-0 win may be the start of a more adventurous, exciting Three Lions.

Job Done! Gary Cahill on Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Leicester [video]

Gary Cahill spoke to Chelsea TV after the 2-0 win over Leicester on Saturday.

The England centre back admitted Chelsea were not at their best, with Leicester holding their own in the first half.

Cahill has become a key member of the Chelsea defender and appears to be the absolute certain starter of the four defenders for now, with Filipe Luis still likely to come in at some point.

The former Bolton and Aston Villa defender had praise for Leicester who played well on the break but admitted the Blues stepped it up in the second period.

Steven Gerrard vouches for Wayne Rooney to take over as England captain [Backpages]

Despite the fact that Steven Gerrard didn’t actually say this in so many words in his official FA interview, tomorrow’s backpages claim the outgoing England captain has nominated Wayne Rooney to take over as skipper.

With the majority of fans (vox-pops, Twitter trends, surveys) wanting Gary Cahill to take over the armband, the tabloids claim Gerrard has tipped his fellow Scouser Rooney to inherit the role.

Unless Gerrard gave separate quotes in a separate interview, the backpages seem to have gotten their idea from the fact that Gerrard said ‘Your Wayne Rooneys and your Joe Harts can help and guide the young lads, so can your Glen Johnsons and your Gary Cahills.’

So the fact that he mentioned Rooney first amounts to an official vouching then?

Gary Cahill trends on Twitter following Gerrard’s England retirement, majority want Chelsea defender as next captain

With Steven Gerrard retiring from international football today, there’s a slot available not just for a new central midfielder to step up to the plate, but also for a new captain to lead the Three Lions.

The three candidates put forward have been Wayne Rooney, Joe Hart and Gary Cahill, and, perhaps surprisingly seeing as he’s the least experienced of the three (27 caps), Chelsea defender Cahill is getting the majority vote.

So much so that Cahill’s name trended on Twitter this afternoon, ahead of any other England players.

A solid, reliable defender, Cahill also showed his enthusiasm for playing for England with his World Cup diary, which he diligently produced on a daily basis ahead of the World Cup (can anyone honestly see Rooney ever doing that?!).

However, it’s not as if Cahill’s been elected as The Chosen One; rather, for many he’s a choice by defualt, due to the lack of genuine alternative candidates.

Gary Cahill’s World Cup Video Diary: ‘Razza (Raheem Sterling) was on fire at training today!’

Backing up the journos’ and Roy Hodgson’s assessment of Raheem Sterling’s performance at England training yesterday, his teammate Gary Cahill has added to the praise for the Liverpool youngster in today’s World Cup video diary.

By the sounds of it, Sterling put in one of the ‘great’ training session performances on Friday, with Hodgson describing him as ‘breathtaking’ and unstoppable’.

Chelsea defender says he was lucky to have ‘Razza’ in his team, because he was ‘on fire’.

‘Razza’, is that going to stick?!

Chelsea’s Gary Cahill updates Video Diary, plays golf with Wayne Rooney, Chris Smalling and Jon Flanagan

Chelsea defender and all-round great guy Gary Cahill is running a video diary during the World Cup, to keep fans abreast of goings on within the camp.

Cahill updated his diary yesterday, the day after the Ecuador draw, which was a rest day, involving recovery shakes and massages (tough life!)

Afterwards, he and Wayne Rooney teamed up for a game of golf against Man United’s Chris Smalling and Liverpool’s Jon Flanagan.

Cahill and Wazza won out, as Cahill says, thanks to a brilliant putt by himself.

The Chelsea defender says he planned to sit back and watch some NBA for the evening, before saying ‘over and out’.

Jokes! England stars Adam Lallana and Gary Cahill teach Portuguese in hilarious video

Southampton’s Adam Lallana and Chelsea’s Gary Cahill will both play key roles in England’s hopes of advancing in this summer’s World Cup.

The pair were today taking part in a Portuguese language school, teachers viewers important bits of Portuguese for Brazil.

Lallana and Cahill were unable to control their laughter at times, with the duo saying funny things like ‘These trunks are giving me right grief’.

Chelsea’s Gary Cahill & Celtic’s Fraser Forster prank Man City keeper Joe Hart in Miami [Video]

The England football team are currently in Miami as they prepare for the upcoming World Cup in Brazil, and the banter in the camp is pretty decent.

Man City keeper Joe Hart was pranked on the first day in America, after the England #1 left his door open in the complex the England team are staying in.

Seeing an opportunity for mischief, Chelsea’s Gary Cahill roped in Celtic’s Fraser Forster to prank the unsuspecting Hart.

What transpired left Hart screaming like a girl.

See how Gary Cahill and Fraser Forster had a bit of fun at Joe Hart’s expense below.
