Ex Celtic & Chelsea player Craig Burley gets a Fernando Torres tattoo after losing a bet [Video]

ESPN pundit Craig Burley, who played for Celtic and Chelsea during his professional career, has been forced into getting a new tattoo after he lost a public bet.

Burley got the needle in his arm after betting that Fernando Torres would fail  to score for Atletico Madrid against Real Madrid last week in the Copa Del Rey.

As we now know, El Nino bagged a brace against Los Blanco to advance Diego Simeone’s side into the next round of the cup.

A picture of Craig Burley’s new tattoo is above, while a video of pundit getting the former Liverpool and Chelsea man’s face on his arm can be viewed below.

Juan Mata hails Man United keeper as “a wall” & congratulates Fernando Torres [Blog]

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea made a string of impressive and important saves in a 2-0 win at QPR this weekend.

The young Spanish keeper has undoubtedly been the Player of the Season at Old Trafford thus far but, with only 18 month left on his contract, is being courted by Real Madrid.

Juan Mata described De Gea as being “a wall” once again in his weekly blog and congratulated another fellow Spaniard Fernando Torres for his Atletico Madrid brace against rivals Real Madrid.

Mata feels “sure they gave him a lot of confidence” after getting off the mark with his boyhood club Atletico Madrid.

The 2-0 win at QPR keeps Manchester United in the top 4 positions, with Arsenal and Tottenham breathing down their necks.

Titled Back again to the FA Cup, read Juan Mata’s blog in full here or below:

Hi everyone,

Sundays after a win are always nice and quite. And it wasn’t easy this time…

We already knew how tough it is to play at Loftus Road… I’m not quite sure about its dimensions but from the pitch I’d say it’s the smallest one in the league. But what matters is that we fought hard and were able to win. We made several chances throughout the entire game and finally we got three valuable points thanks to the goals from Felli and James. QPR played their cards, as we expected, and they were also dangerous when sending long balls to the attacking players, but David, once again, was a wall. Winning this weekend was even more important since all the teams in the top side of the table -except Manchester City- won their games. There’s still a long way to go; we have to keep pushing and be at a high level because our main rivals will do the same. We want to get in top form to the crucial weeks of the season.

Now it’s time for the FA Cup, this is a competition that I like very much as I have said here many times. Perhaps it is because I was lucky to win it in my first year in England and I have good memories from those games at Wembley. We play against Cambridge United, from League Two. I believe they are not going to make things easier for us in their stadium.

I watched a lot of sports on TV this Sunday… In Spain the top three teams did their job. The fight for la Liga title continues. I would like to congratulate Fernando Torres for his goals in the Copa del Rey, I’m sure they gave them a lot of confidence. What an impressive way to score again with Atlético.

From here I also send my congrats to Marc Coma after winning his 5th Dakar. Amazing. And now that the Rally is over the Handball World Championship starts, where Spain is aiming to win back-to-back titles; and the Australian Open too, it’ll be interesting to follow the tennis games in these couple of weeks…

Big hug to all of you, have a good week.

Juan

PS: It was nice to see Ferdinand again. We were together in United for just five months but he always treated me very well… Good luck Rio!

Torres & Atletico Madrid dump Real out of the Copa del Rey with 4-2 aggregate win [Video Highlights]

Atletico Madrid continued their fine run against city rivals Real tonight, by knocking them out of the King’s Cup with a 4-2 aggregate win.

Fernando Torres stole the show with a two goal salvo, scoring in the first minute of either half from Antoine Griezmann passes.

Real twice equalized through Sergio Ramos and then Cristiano Ronaldo, but the die was cast once Torres scored his first; with the away goal advantage, Real would have needed to win 5-2 on the night to advance.

Copa del Rey produce special video of Fernando Torres’ brace v Real Madrid

It was a special night for Fernando Torres, and the Copa del Rey have produced a special video fitting the occasion.

Torres scored his first goals back in an Atletico Madrid shirt, both of which were scored in the first minute of either half, on a night where they knocked city rivals Real out of the King’s Cup.

The video above shows both goals in their entirety, which make for pretty poor viewing from a Real Madrid perspective.

Take nothing away from Torres, but the defending was horrendous, and Ramos essentially gifted the second with an awry Hollywood pass out of defence.

Huge credit has to go to Antoine Griezman, who showed great craft and industry to create both goals.

The Inevitable Memes as Fernando Torres scores two goals against Real Madrid!

Oh my days.

If the simple fact of Fernando Torres scoring wasn’t enough, he managed it inside the first minute.

Twice!

Torres followed up his first goal back with Atletico Madrid, by repeating the magic trick again in the second half, inside just 33 seconds.

Both goals were taken with class and composure, the hallmarks of the old Torres….we’ve said it and heard it so much that it’s become a bit tiresome but….

is he really back this time?!!?

A brace against city rivals Real – against whom he’d only scored once before – in a Copa del Rey clash to knock them out at the Bernabeu: this will do wonders for Torres’ confidence.

And, as Mister Chip has kindly pointed out, he’s actually made history with this brace too, another reason for Atleti fans to shower The Kid with love.

He’s done it again! Fernando Torres scores brace, in 1st minute of 2nd half v Real Madrid! [Vidoes]

Here’s something you probably thought you’d never hear again: Fernando Torres is on fire.

The Kid is on a hat-trick against Real Madrid tonight, having scored a brilliant brace, scoring both goals in the first minute of either half.

For his brace, Torres sold Pepe a brilliant dummy, and calmly slotted past Keylor Navas.

Amazing what a shirt can do for a player’s confidence!

Fernando Torres scores 1st goal back with Atletico Madrid – after 53 seconds v Real! [Videos]

El Niño is now officially back.

Fernando Torres has scored his first goal back in colours of his boyhood club Atletico Madrid, in just his second game after returning on loan this month, and he chose an opportune time to strike.

Torres scored after just 53 seconds of tonight’s Copa del Rey return leg against city rivals Real, to give them a huge 3-0 lead on aggregate.

The Madrid defence went to sleep, and Griezmann found Torres at the back post, who made no mistake with the finish.

Back Real Madrid to beat Atletico Madrid at massive odds of 7/2!!!

The best team in the world have it all to do against city neighbours Atletico as they bid to stay in the Copa del Rey, which they won last season.

Real Madrid famously beat Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final in 2014, mainly thanks to a “roadrunner” wonder goal from Gareth Bale.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side are though in serious danger of being dumped out the competition by Diego Simeone’s side on Thursday having lost 2-0 at the Vicente Calderon last week.

Last week Ancelotti did not start a full strength side at Atletico with Cristiano Ronaldo coming off the bench.

There is no chance of Real Madrid not playing all their attacking stars against Atletico tonight, with Ronaldo, set to be up front with Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale.

Real Madrid will have seen how Atletico were blitzed at the Nou Camp on Sunday night and whilst they are strong defensively, the 3-1 Barcelona win should give Los Blancos confidence.

Diego Simeone has a number of selection dilemmas going into the game and with this set to be the third high intensity game in just eight days, there are fears for Atletico despite their 2-0 lead.

The Bernabeu is expected to be rocking and with Cristiano Ronaldo set to be awarded his Ballon d’Or in front of the Real Madrid crowd and with his special new boots, who would bet against a comeback!

Chelsea flop Fernando Torres explains why he left AC Milan to join Atletico Madrid

This morning Atletico Madrid confirmed the 18 month loan signing of former Chelsea striker Fernando Torres.

Torres joined AC Milan on loan in the summer but has failed to impress, scoring one goal in 10 appearances.

AC Milan signed him permanently from Chelsea in recent days in order to loan him out to his boyhood club Atletico Madrid.

Speaking in a press conference in Dubia, the 30 year old striker explained why he wanted to leave Milan.

Fernando Torres thought he would be a “key player” for the Serie A giants but has found himself on the bench more often than not.

He said “The transfer to Milan was a new challenge for me. They showed me that they needed me, that they wanted to use me as a key player.

“But after a few months the situation changed. The Coach decided to make use of different players and I didn’t find what I was looking for when I left England.

“If you’re looking for something and you don’t find it, you’ve got to keep looking.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Milan, who allowed me to leave.

“I thought I was important for Milan, but things went differently. Now, there is no better place than Atletico.”
