About Edinson Cavani
Edinson Cavani was born on 14 February 1987 in Salto, Uruguay. He plays as a striker for the Uruguay national team and Paris Saint-Germain. He is also capable of playing behind the striker or as a winger, as he has done for Uruguay in the past.
Cavani’s youth career began at Uruguayan side Danubio in 2000. He made his professional debut in 2005 and won the 2006-07 Primera Divison with the side.
After top-scoring at 2007 South American Youth Championship with Uruguay, Cavani signed for Palermo on 31 January for just over €4 million. He scored on his debut against Fiorentina on 11 March 2007. He spent four seasons at the club, scoring 37 goals.
Cavani signed for Napoli in July 2010, initially on a loan deal, which the club made permanent. In just three seasons with the club, Cavani scored over 100 goals, being named in the Serie A Team of the Year three years in a row. In the 2012-13 season, Cavani was the division’s top scorer with 29 goals. Cavani played a pivotal role in Napoli’s 2012 Coppa italia triumph, top-scoring in the tournament.
On 16 July 2013, Cavani signed for French champions Paris Saint-Germain for a fee of €64.5 million. Cavani was named in the Ligue 1 Team of the Year in his first season as PSG won the Ligue 1 title and the Coupe de la Ligue. The following season, PSG retained their league title and won the Coupe de France.
Cavani made his Uruguay debut on 6 February 2008, scoring in a 2-2 draw with Colombia. He has since gone on to make over 70 appearances for the national team, winning the 2011 Copa America and appearing in two World Cups, the Confederations Cup and the 2012 Olympics.
