Cristiano Ronaldo was born on 5 February 1985 in Madeira, Portugal. Ronaldo was named after former American president and actor, Ronald Reagan. He possesses incredible pace and trickery as well as unbelievable dribbling and shooting ability. Ronaldo joined Sporting’s academy in 1997. Working his way up the ranks, he became the only player to have ever played for Sporting’s U16, U17, U18, B and senior teams all within a single season. Ronaldo scored a brace on his league debut in 2002. At the end of the season Ronaldo was awarded the FIFA World Player of the Year, an award he would win again in 2013 and 2014.
On 1 July 2009, Ronaldo signed for Real Madrid for a fee of £80 million, making him the most expensive footballer in history. Since joining the club, Ronaldo has been the main man. He has scored over 300 goals at a rate of more than a goal a game. His best season came in 2014-15, when he netted 61 times in 54 games. Ronaldo has won seven trophies since joining the club, including La Decima, Real Madrid’s tenth European Cup.
Ronaldo made his Portugal debut in 2003 and has scored more than half a century of goals for the national team, making him the country’s all-time leading goal scorer.
