About Ashley Young
Ashley Young was born on 9 July 1985 in Stevenage, England. He plays for the England national team and Manchester United, who he joined in 2011.
Young is predominantly a left-winger, although he has also been utilized as a wing-back and occasionally as an attacking midfielder.
Young joined Watford’s youth academy in 2000 and made his debut for the senior side in September 2003 as an 18-year-old, scoring against Millwall. Young scored 3 goals in 6 appearances in his first season with the club and became a regular in the side the following season, being named Watford’s Young Player of the Season. Young scored 22 goals in 110 appearances for Watford, helping them win the Championship play-offs in 2006.
On 23 January 2007, Young signed for Aston Villa for a fee of £8 million. In his second season with the club, Young was named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year. Young won the award again the 2008-09 season and was also named the PFA Young Player of the Year. Young scored 38 goals in 190 appearances in his five seasons at Villa.
On 23 June 2011, Young signed for Manchester United for an undisclosed fee, believed to be between £15 million and £20 million. Young helped Manchester United win the Premier League title in his second season with the club, featuring 19 times in the League.
More recently, Young has often been deployed in the wing-back position. Towards the end of the 2014-15 season, Young was the preferred choice on United’s left hand side, ahead of record signing Angel Di Maria.
Young made his international debut on 16 November 2007 in a friendly against Austria and has since gone on to make more than 30 appearances for the Three Lions.
