Pharaoh’s Revenge: Amr Zaki is busted open after trying to celebrate an Egyptian goal

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

This is one of the best videos of the year so far.

Easily ignored, Saturday saw an international friendly take place in the Middle East as Oman entertained African power-house Egypt, with the Pharaohs emerging a narrow victors with a 1-nil win. The goal was scored by the visitors’ star playmaker Mohamed Aboutrika early in the second half, but it was the slapstick comedy which unfolded in the aftermath of the goal which will make this game so memorable.

And taking the starring role, after having been a peripheral figure for much of the second half of the season, was former Wigan-loanee forward Amr Zaki.

Looking to celebrate with the goalscorer, Zaki ran over to Aboutrika to jump on the main-man after he scored the only goal of the game. Comically, however, substitute Ahmed Eid Abdel Malek also had the same idea, and amazingly neither Zaki or Malek took notice of the fellow teammate as they both went in on the leap.

Crash. Bang. Blood. And six stitches.

See how the incident unfolded here.
