Jermain Defoe: A man in demand

Sky Sports News revealed on Wednesday that Sunderland had rejected a six million pound bid from West Ham for Jermain Defoe.

West Ham have struggled up front this season with summer signing Simone Zaza and Jonathan Calleri failing to impress, or score.

The Hammers are on the lookout for new strikers and turned to Jermain Defoe, who came through the ranks at West Ham.

West Ham back in for Defoe

Defoe has been in excellent form for Sunderland, scoring two against Liverpool on Monday to take his tally for the season to 11 Premier League goals.

The former Spurs and Portsmouth striker is now 34 and has a contract at Sunderland until 2019.

It wouldn’t be a massive surprise if Defoe is keen for a move down south back to the club where he started his career.

However, Defoe has not always had good relations with the West Ham support, having left in an acrimonious transfer to Tottenham.

Sunderland would be crazy to sell Defoe with so little money available to David Moyes for a replacement…
