Over the past few weeks Arsenal fans have likely come across an article somewhere linking the Gunners with a move for Celta Vigo striker Nolito.
The story has been bigged up in the Spanish press, with Barcelona also linked to the 29-year-old striker who has been enjoying a terrific campaign in La Liga.
Last week, in fact, Mundo Deportivo reported that Arsenal are already in negotiations with Celta Vigo to sign Nolito.
Mundo Deportivo claim Nolito has been watched extensively by Arsenal in recent weeks and discussions are already far advanced with both the player’s representatives and Celta Vigo.
The Gunners reportedly have already put 14 million pounds (19 million euros) on the table to Celta Vigo, which is more than the player’s release clause, to ensure they get their man.
But now there is a major snag.
Whether or not Arsenal fans believed the paper talk or not, Nolito could be set for a period on the sidelines after he picked up a thigh injury late on in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Espanyol.
Nolito pulled up with an obvious muscle problem as he chased down a ball in the final minutes of the match.
The striker was in immediately pain as he sunk to the floor, before he was instantly subbed off the pitch.
Nolito is now expected to be out of action for a least a couple of weeks, which could be enough to shelve any move to Arsenal this winter.
