Portugeuse paper Record are reporting on Tuesday morning that Atletico Madrid failed in a deadline day move for Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus.
Before delving into the detail of the move that never happened, it’s worth noting that Record may have been duped in their account of the Reus saga.
Many are claiming that the Reus-Ateltico story was cooked up on transfer deadline day by ITKs, and the story is a complete fake. Making that accusation all the more credible is that fact that few other organisations are running the Reus story the morning after the window slammed shut.
Back to the tale at hand, Record say Diego Simeone missed out of Reus as “there was no agreement among the various parties” to getting the deal done in time. The offer was supposed to be for around £40m
The assumption laid out in the report is that Reus was not against a potential move to the Rojiblancos.
Noticeably, Arsenal were also listed as another club with a definite interest in the German attacking midfielder.
Reus has played in 92 matches for Dortmund, scoring 43 goals in that time. Moreover, Reus was set to play for Germany at World Cup 2014, but a last minute injury left him out of the competition.
