Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is planning to sell Robin van Persie in order to fund a move for Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani, according to the Daily Star.
It has been widely reported that the Red Devils have told the former Arsenal striker to find a new club, as he has been deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.
If indeed Robin van Persie does depart from Manchester then the club would be desperately short of attacking options.
The signing of Edinson Cavani would certainly solve that problem, as the 28 year old is thought of as being one of the hottest strikers in football at the moment.
It is understood that the French club are open to the idea of selling one of Edinson Cavani or Swedish superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic. A stumbling block in the transfer could be Paris Saint-Germain’s valuation of the player, as anyone looking to purchase the Uruguayan would need to pay close to £50 million.
