Terrible Tuesday in Manchester
Tuesday was a rough day for Manchester United fans.
At around midday, news broke out of Germany that Bayern Munich had made a major signing, penning Renato Sanches to a deal until 2021.
Sanches had been linked with Man United for months, yet the player has ended up heading to the Allianz Arena instead.
The episode left United fans feeling like they’d lost out again in the transfer market.
Later in the night, the Red Devils suffered another defeat on the pitch, as they were beaten 3-2 at West Ham in the final ever match at Upton Park.
That result has left United’s top four hopes hanging by a thread, while Louis van Gaal’s position at the club is again of majorly shaky ground.
Sporting star on radar
Portuguese paper A Bola have tried to stem the flow of bad news on Wednesday, claiming to have the inside track on United’s next transfer target: Sporting CP’s 23-year-old midfielder Joao Mario. In truth, this isn’t the first time this transfer story has surfaced.
Joao Mario recently signed a new and improved contract with the Lions to keep him at the club until 2020. The new deal also had a €60 million release clause written into it.
The front page of A Bola claims Man United would offer €40 million for Joao Mario. Whether that’s enough to get the deal done is questionable.
Aside from Joao Mario, another possible midfielder target for United could be Valencia’s Andre Gomes.
