Lyon search for a winger
French club Lyon are supposed looking at the Premier League in their quest to sign a winger in January.
Lyon are fourth in the French top flight, while they are five points off PSG, who are in the final Champions League spot in Ligue 1.
Like many clubs in Europe, Lyon are losing players to the African Cup of Nations, including 24-year-old Algerian winger Rachid Ghezzal.
Lyon want to plug the hole in their squad from Ghezzal’s departure, and that’s lead them to Man United winger Adnan Januzaj, who is currently on loan at Sunderland for the season.
Story told by L’Equipe
L’Equipe, the leading French broadsheet, have claimed Januzaj is a possible target for Lyon, and the French club have spoken to former Man United boss Louis van Gaal about whether the move would make sense.
One suspects LVG won’t be the biggest fan of Januzaj, who had a terrible loan spell at Borussia Dortmund during the Dutchman’s spell at Old Trafford.
Januzaj is under contract at Man United until 2018, although few expect the Belgian to ever make the grade at the Theatre of Dreams.
He’s played 16 matches for Sunderland this season, scoring once and grabbing one assist.
So how likely is a January move to Lyon?
Januzaj was loaned to Sunderland for the whole season, and it’s unclear whether the Red Devils have the option to recall the midfielder before the end of the deal.
United would probably only get involved in that deal provided that Lyon would sign Januzaj on a permanent transfer rather than simply subituting one loan club for another.
