Spurs face competition
Tottenham’s pursuit of Ross Barkley will not be a one-horse race.
According to the Telegraph, London rivals Chelsea are also interested in the Everton midfielder and could battle Spurs for his signature.
The two sides faced each other on Sunday at Wembley, where two goals from Marcos Alonso gave Chelsea a 2-1 win.
Barkley is yet to feature for Everton this season, although the club’s official reason for that is due to injury.
While Barkley’s new injury setback may genuine, it is also true that manager Ronald Koeman all but confirmed Barkley would be leaving the club this summer.
With the recent arrival of Gylfi Sigurdsson from Swansea for a club-record fee, there appears to be no space in the side for Barkley.
The 23-year-old could be subject to a £20m bid from Spurs, which will also include £8m in bonuses.
It’s unclear whether or not such an offer will be accepted by the Toffees, as they wait for an imminent bid from Chelsea as well.
