With Steven Gerrard leaving Anfield at the end of the season for LA Galaxy, we have already been told of a number of successors for the Liverpool legend.
Current Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has been pinpointed as one. Roma’s Miralem Pjanic another.
And today, in Portuguese newspaper Record, we are told that Liverpool also see Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho as another.
There seems little doubt that Liverpool will splash the cash this summer on a midfield replacement for Steven Gerrard.
According to Record, Liverpool had scouts at Porto’s 3-0 win over Sporting Lisbon on Sunday, specifically to watch William Carvalho.
The defensive midfielder played the full 90 minutes in a disappointing display for Sporting as they were brushed aside by Porto.
William Carvalho was heavily linked to Manchester United when David Moyes was in charge at Old Trafford.
Last January, Arsenal were also reportedly interested in a player who is represented by super agent Jorge Mendes.
It seems inevitable that William Carvalho will end up in the Premier League but it is far from certain whether Liverpool’s interest is genuine, or perhaps a way of re-igniting the likes of United and Arsenal to move for the defensive midfielder.
