Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is a target for the New York Red Bulls [Sunday Telegraph]

Is Steven Gerrard about to leave Liverpool to move to New York City?

The Sunday Telegraph have an article on the front page of their weekend sports sections reporting that the New York Red Bulls would love to sign the Reds talisman should Gerrard fail to agree a new deal at Anfield.

Gerrard, 34, is said to have a “strong relationship” with the Red Bulls sporting director, and former Liverpool boss, Gerard Houllier, and that could be key in getting the deal to the Big Apple done.

Gerrard’s current deal at Liverpool expires in the summer, and should the parties be unable to reach terms on an extension, a move to America could be ideal for the aging midfielder.

The Sunday Telegraph add:

In theory Gerrard could sign a pre-sontract agreement with an overseas club in January but that is unlikely to happen.
