French outfit Lille are preparing a surprise bid of 40 million Euro for Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi, according to a report from France Football this afternoon.
Batshuayi, a 23-year-old Belgian international, arrived at Stamford Bridge last summer from Marseille for a fee of 40 million Euro.
He has since gone on to endure an up-and-down experience in London, struggling to cement a regular place in Antonio Conte’s starting XI, but netting the goal that secured the Premier League title for his side last season.
On the move?
A thoroughly underwhelming performance versus Burnley in Chelsea’s league opener at home to Burnley ten days ago has seen the 10-time capped international come in for heavy criticism since, with sections of Blues fans questioning whether he is the calibre of striker needed to once again challenge Europe’s top sides in the Champions League.
Though a transfer before the close of the summer window looks highly unlikely nonetheless, a bid is reportedly in the offing from Ligue 1 outfit Lille.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side were linked with a move for Batshuayi during the winter transfer market this year, with the wily Argentine coach known to be a huge fan of the talents of the Blues star.
And, as per the aforementioned report from France Football, Lille are now ready to take their interest in the striker a step further, by offering Chelsea the same fee which they splashed out to secure Batshuayi’s signature a year ago, 40 million Euro.
